XVII Mariachi and Mexican Traditions Festival

The 17th edition of the Mariachi and Mexican Traditions Festival will take place September 26, 27 and 28, 2014 in downtown Morelia.

The Mariachi, string music, song and trumpet was listed as representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011.

The opening concert will be held at the gazebo in the Plaza de Armas in downtown on September 26th at 8 pm, performed by the five best Mariachi bands from Morelia: El Emperador, Guadalajara, Libertad, México Lindo and el Monumental.

The Gala concert will be performed by Alberto Ángel “el Cuervo” with the Mariachi band “Ordaz de Purépero”. This concert will be held at Madero Avenue in front of the Cathedral on Saturday 27th at 8 pm. Alberto Angel has recorded over 40 albums in his career.

Also, at the Gala concert Ángela Miranda “La Reina del Mariachi” accompanied by “La Loba” Mariachi band. Mariachi Purépero Ordaz, who has 69 years of musical experience and is currently the best Mariachi band in Michoacan. It will perform Frank Sinatra songs, the Beatles and Michoacan composers.

The Festival will feature Carmelo, the Michoacan child Mariachi Singer and his band Mariachi Cerro Azul.

On Sunday September 28th, there will be special Masses with Mariachis in the San Jose and San Augustin churches at 11 am and San Francisco and Capuchinas at 12 noon.
