We are celebrating the 469th anniversary of Morelia. Many activities take place this month, such as contests, conferences, artistic presentations and night festivals in downtown. These activities are called Fiestas Morelianas.

In this month the Agricultural, Cattle & Handicrafts Fair takes place. It has Craft shows, livestock, trade and industry. Spectacles of music and dance, rides and traditional groups.

On May 18th, 1541, Juan de Alvarado, Juan de Villaseñor and Luis de León Romano founded the city called Mechuacán by mandate of the first viceroy of New Spain, Antonio de Mendoza. It was nestled in the Valle de Guayangareo. That city was later called Valladolid and nowadays called Morelia in honor of Don José María Morelos y Pavón.
