24th edition of the Festival de Música de Morelia Miguel Bernal Jimenez
The 24th edition of the Festival de Música de Morelia Miguel Bernal Jimenez will take place in the colonial city of Morelia, November 16th through 25th, 2012. The Festival´s performances will be held at the Cathedral and other churches, the Government´s Palace, Las Rosas Conservatory, Palacio Clavijero and other buildings and squares in downtown Morelia.
The 2011 edition had outstanding results; it gathered 50,000 attendees, more than 50 activities and 8 millions of TV viewers and radio listeners. There will be artists from 8 countries in the 2012 edition.
The opening concert will be held in the Morelos Theatre on Friday November 16th at 8:30 pm. There will be a classical-romantic program with two formidable works: the beloved Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, and the pre-Mahler Fantastique Symphonie by Berlioz, performed by the National Symphony Orchestra & the violinist Ilya Gringolts, under the direction of Antoni Ros-Marbá.
Among the participating artists are Kim Kashkashian, Maria Piccinini, Sivan Magen, Escuer Alejandro, Rodrigo Sigal, ONIX assembly, Hollving Argáez, Francisco Bringas, Anna Adoue, the Quartets: Leipzig, Sigma Project, Versus 8 and many more.
Tania Libertad will give a concert-show at Plaza Valladolid. She will perform songs from Benedetti, Juan Gabriel, Cantoral, Serrat, Guastavino, Nascimento, Alberti and Parra, among others.
Sergio Vela (festival’s artistic director) will give a series of talks (free and open to the general public) with introductory information about music at Las Rosas Conservatory on August 30th, September 13th & 27th and October 11th.
There will be a series of master classes taught by Antonio Florio, members of the Leipzig String Quartet, Raul Carnota and members of Sigma Project. These master classes will be free and open to the general public on November 22nd and 23rd at 5.00 pm at Palacio Clavijero.
Ignacio Vazquez will give a series of educational concerts called “Una Familia Singular” (a singular family). It is an educational tour through the sounds and the physical characteristics of the flute family. These concerts will be performed at Palacio Clavijero November 20th to 23rd at 11.00 am.
The Festival has interesting side events this year, among others: the Patamban Floral Rugs Exhibition at Calzada Fray Antonio de San Miguel (November 17th); an international gastronomic exhibition, called “”La música hasta la cocina” (Music up to the kitchen). Attendants will taste dishes from the countries invited to the Festival. This event will take place at Palacio Clavijero on November 22nd at 2.00 pm & November 25th at 1:00 pm.
Enjoy the Exhibition Transcripciones Musicalográficas at Palacio Clavijero November 15th to 30th. Exhibit will merge visual arts and music giving the public the opportunity to watch the work that inspired the music performed at the Festival.
