2012 Globos De Cantoya International Festival In Paracho
The Seventh Globos De Cantoya International Festival will be held at Casa para el Arte y la Cultura P´urhepecha in downtown Paracho, July 19th through 22nd, 2012. Cantoya (or cantolla) balloons are big balloon made out of thousands of china paper sheets (from 4 to 2000 or more) and impelled to the sky by a hot device.
This Festival aimed for the World´s Cultural Heritage recognition of Globos de Cantoya.
This year festival will include a children´s contest on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th and adults contest and the rest of the activities on Saturday July 21st and Sunday 22nd, 2012. The contest is national with participants from several states within Mexico and several categories: Sapichito, Tsipani (children), Tsitsiki (women), Itsi, sun, moon, earth, galaxy and the newer category p´urhe (to activate creativity). The contest has several rules and monetary prizes from 500 pesos up to 9000 pesos.
Brazil is again the special International guest to participate in the exhibition with their amazing globos de cantoya.
The whole event will have conferences,workshops (to learn hoe to build these ballons), dances, theater, concerts and exhibitions of Globos de Cantoya. From Thursday to Sunday hundreds of Globos will be flying through the sky in Paracho. This seventh edition will include uarhukua (purepecha ball game), mojigangas, “carnavaleada”, traditional Michoacan women´cooks and artcrafts.
